63 Cats lives together in Vaxholm
“Time spent with a cat is never wasted.” ― Colette

“If man could be crossed with a cat, it would improve man but deteriorate the cat.”

I did an article for an informative paper in Vaxholm community outside of Stockholm this spring. I found 63 traumatized and homeless cats with different personalities in a home run by 3 women and föreningen Djurhjälpen, supported with volonteers days and nights. Most of these cats have been living in cat colonies without any human contact. Some of them have lost the people they lived with when they passed away. If you decide to adopt one cat from this home you make space for one more cat, they tell me. So contact them to save 2 cats at once if you adopt one.
The cats have to go through 3 different stages to become more socialized and friendly. The first thing and foremost important is to take care of external and internal wounds etc, castrate, vaccinate and give the animals an ID.
The ladies working at this home also make sure that it is up to every single cat when they are ready to go out of its box after the first stage; the isolation-period. That is the period when the trips to the veterinary are the most intense. They simply open the door. Some of them recovers more quickly while others tend to be more reserved for a long time. Important in this home is of course food and love.
